These tools can find cavities that are just beginning and would have been missed by previous detection methods. DIAGNOdent is 96% accurate as opposed to 50% with Explorer and 76% with X-ray. According to Dr. Thompson, and nationally known experts in dentistry, DIAGNOdent as one of the greatest technological advances in dentistry since the invention of X-rays. DIAGNOdent is a small, portable laser unit that can detect these cavities and alert us with an audible signal and also provides a numerical readout, so we have an idea of its size.
We can detect and stop cavities in their infancy, whereas in the past they would have to be significantly bigger before we could find and treat them.
