Is it Time to Remove Your Wisdom Teeth?

Why do so many people need to remove their wisdom teeth?

This diagram should give you some insight into why wisdom teeth need to be removed:

Plano Wisdom Teeth Illustration

More than half of us have one or more of our wisdom teeth come in crooked. Unless action is taken, impacted and crooked wisdom teeth can have some harmful side effects:

  • Abscessed tooth
  • Infections
  • Damage to surrounding areas
  • Pain
  • Gum complications
  • Bite problems
  • TMJ (“Temporomandibular Joint”) – can cause sore jaw joints and headaches

What are wisdom teeth?

Your wisdom teeth are the four furthest back on the top and bottom rows.

They are called “wisdom teeth” because they come in when you are older and “wiser.”

They start to arrive between the ages of 17 and 25.

Who needs their wisdom teeth removed?

  • Young people mid to late teens through mid twenties with impacted wisdom’s causing problems
  • Young people before or after orthodontic treatment to prevent problems with straightening teeth at the recommendation of your orthodontist
  • People with wisdom teeth that have only partially come in (partial eruption)
  • People with chronic gum problems around their wisdom’s  and second molars
  • Some people lacking room for wisdom’s may need to have them removed
  • Those suffering from TMJ pain whose erupted wisdom teeth are displacing the jaw joint

Benefits of wisdom tooth removal

  • Help you avoid pain, abscesses or infections
  • Can correct localized periodontal (gum) pocketing
  • Get it done while you’re young reducing trauma and healing time
  • Can help achieve a more stable bite
  • Possibly prevent orthodontic relapse
  • Less trauma, shorter recovery time with our proprietary extraction technique for erupted third molars
  • Avoid damage to surrounding teeth

How can you tell if you need to have your very back molars removed?

The only way to know for sure is to have x-rays and a consultation . While x-rays can be taken at any time it is best if they are taken between the ages of 15 and 20, so corrective action can be taken before any damage occurs.

Now you can have them out while you’re comfortably sedated with IV Sedation or choose enteral sedation (two small pills and Nitrous) or local anesthetic.

Plus Imagecare has developed a proprietary technique of removing erupted teeth with less trauma resulting in a quicker, easier procedure and a shorter recovery time. At No ADDITIONAL cost.
