Replacing Single Missing Teeth with Implant-Supported Crowns

At Imagecare Dental, we strive to provide patients with the most advanced restorative dentistry treatments available. If you are looking for single-tooth replacement options, an implant-supported crown can provide stable, long-lasting, and realistic results. By fusing with the jaw, implants can even discourage the bone loss that results from missing teeth. Our doctors can conveniently perform all stages of your treatment at our Plano, TX, practice. Using ultramodern imaging technology, we can digitally plan your surgery and place implants with more accuracy than ever before. To help you relax throughout the process, we also offer various sedation options

Implant-supported crowns are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Is an Implant-Supported Crown Right for You?

If you are missing a single tooth, you are likely a candidate for an implant-supported crown. Our doctors can also place several implants if you have multiple, non-adjacent missing teeth.

Thanks to our innovative techniques and recent developments in dentistry, you will typically qualify for dental implants even if you have a chronic health condition, such as diabetes. Nonetheless, it is important to discuss your medical history with one of our doctors at your first consultation. In particular, be sure to mention any autoimmune diseases or other conditions that could affect your recovery.

In order to be considered a good candidate, your jawbone must also be dense enough to support an implant post. If you have already suffered bone recession, we can often perform a bone graft or a sinus lift to help improve your candidacy for treatment.

Placing and Restoring Implant-Supported Crowns

Your implant treatment will begin with the creation of a computer-guided surgical plan. Using 3-D scans of your jaw, your surgeon will be able to insert your implant in the strongest position possible. Once you are made comfortable with local anesthesia and sedation, if needed, the doctor will surgically place a small titanium post in your jaw and close the gum tissue to facilitate healing.

Implant-supported crowns provide stable, long-lasting, and realistic replacements for individual missing teeth.

After the procedure, your jaw will still need time to heal before we can attach your custom crown. Over four to six months, the implant will integrate with your jaw, essentially replacing your tooth roots. While you are healing, you may be provided with a temporary restoration to maintain your appearance. As soon as you have recovered, your doctor will attach your custom-designed crown. Your crown will have lifelike sparkle and color, blending in seamlessly with your smile.

Implant-Supported Crowns Offer Remarkable Benefits

Before implants were commonly used, traditional dental bridges were the only way to replace single missing teeth. While bridges can still be an effective and natural-looking choice, implant-supported restorations have several advantages:

  • Incredibly Stable: An implant will be fixed in your mouth, so the attached restoration will be much more secure than a removable bridge.
  • Preserve Surrounding Teeth: Your doctor will not need to reshape your nearby teeth, as they would to secure a traditional bridge.
  • Improve Bone Health: An implant will replace your tooth roots, producing regenerative signals to trigger new tissue growth. As a result, your jaw bone should remain dense and strong, and you will have a much lower risk of additional tooth loss.

Your crown will eventually need to be replaced but when you practice thorough dental hygiene and schedule regular preventive visits, your implant could last for life.
